Number of visits:
Châteauguay residents are granted five free visits every year from May 15 to May 14 of the following year. You must provide proof of your address to be eligible. A fee is charged after five visits depending on the volume of the load.
ACCEPTED WASTE MATERIALS:
THE MATERIALS NEED TO BE SORTED WHEN YOU COME ONTO THE SITE. PLEASE NOTE THAT WE WON’T ACCEPT GARBAGE BAGS WITH MIXED MATERIALS.
- Dry materials: Brick, asphalt, concrete, aggregate
- Recyclables: Paper, cardboard, glass (like bottles) and plastic (HDPE, PP)
- Ferrous metals: Iron, car body parts, empty metal containers
- Non-Ferrous metals: Aluminum, zinc, copper
- Wood: Painted, tainted, coated, virgin timber, plywood, etc.
- Reusable: Bikes, furniture, home appliances, etc.
- Clothes: Jackets, boots, shoes, any other kind of clothes
- Household hazardous wastes: Propane, paints, dyes, batteries, oxidants, used motor and filter oils, batteries, etc.
- Organic wastes: Christmas trees, stamps, bushes over 10 cm. Christmas trees can be deposited between the 2nd and the 15th of January without claiming a visit.
- Mixed wastes: All wastes that does not enter any of the categories and do not have a recycling value but which are not domestic or compostable waste.
- Tires without rims are accepted but a $10 fee applies to tires with the rims.
- Upholstered couches and chairs as well as mattresses will be accepted with a, $15 fee. One broken home appliance is equivalent to one visit and when all visits have been used, fees apply.
Refused waste materials:
- All organic matter: grass, leaves and other organic wastes (except for the accepted organic wastes). To find out the city’s collection schedule, visit:

- Contaminated soil and dirt
- Manure and any kind of sludge
- Explosive materials: pressurized containers, dynamite, weapons, munitions, etc.
- Other wastes: Commercial, industrial (such as paint), pathological and radioactive
- All biomedical wastes covered under Quebec’s regulation (Q-2, r 3,001)
- Household wastes
- Upholstered couches and chairs as well as mattresses will be accepted with a $15 fee.
- Tires without rims are accepted but a $10 fee applies to tires with the rims.
Exclusions
Materials are not accepted, fees apply and they must be sent to DMS sorting centre next door (at 222 boul. Industriel, Châteauguay).

- Big trucks
Materials not accepted but alternatives for disposal.
- Fire extinguishers: Bring to Chateauguay’s fire station
- Gasoline cans: Gas stations
Dimensions:
Considered one visit : 4 ft (121, 9 cm) x 8 ft (242,8 cm) x 24 in (61 cm).
Exceptions:
- Branches : 4 ft (121, 9 cm) x 8 ft (242,8 cm) x 48 in (122 cm).
- Household hazardous wastes : 2 ft (61 cm) x 2 ft (61 cm) x 2 ft (61 cm).

REFUSED VEHICLES BECAUSE CONSIDERED COMMERCIAL
Dumping trucks and oversized vehicles (10 x 6 feet) are not accepted. Included in that category are dumping trailers and trucks as well as moving trucks. Axles for trailers are more than 2 and more than 4 for trucks.
Everything above 2 tons must be redirected to DMS sorting centre at 222 Boul. Industriel, Châteauguay.
